In just under 2 weeks, a few parishioners will join with me to form a Mission Team which will travel to a parish in the Diocese of Nottingham and Southwell to lead a week long mission. For all on the team this will be a totally new experience and as we make the final preparations excitement and apprehension is starting to grow.
I believe in a God who likes to fully bless us, and as He blesses us, then it is only right that we bless others. This week will hopefully provide us with lots of opportunities to bless another Church, as we have been so blessed by teams and individuals coming to our parish. The theme for the week is Keep er’ lit, which basically means keep going, and is based upon Matthew 5:16, the lighthouse theme, “Let your light shine among others”. We hope that as we lead worship, preach, do holiday Bible club, Coffee afternoons, healing services, film nights, Family Fun Night with BBQ that God will use us to bless the Parish of Carlton and Colwick, and Burton Joyce, and that many people will come to know Jesus as their personal Saviour. Please keep this mission in your prayers and here are a few prayer pointers: W Mission Team W Host Parish W Safe Travelling W A move of God Keep checking back for regular updates of how we are getting on! We pray for the family and friends of our dear brother, neighbour and colleague in the Gospel, Rev. Dr. Stewart Jones. We pray for his wife Patricia, daughters and their families. Especially praying for his daughter Anna, husband David and their children Joshua and Lily, who are members of our parish. We also pray for the Elders, Kirk Session and Congregation of Donemana Presbyterian Church, that they will feel the comfort and strength of a loving Father in heaven.
BBQ time is here!
Exam season is over and summer holidays are about to start. On warm summer evenings there is always the waft of the BBQ aroma filling the air! It always wets my appetite and gets the taste buds flowing. However, on the downside to summer holidays, there is always a noticeable drop in the number of people who are in Church on Sunday mornings. It is always good to remember that no matter where we are in the world, God always promises to be with us. So even when we are on holidays we should always take time to worship God and there is always a place of worship not far from us. One of the joys of being Church of Ireland is that we are members of the world wide Anglican Church, which means that when on holidays, there is always an opportunity to worship in an environment with which we are comfortable, and even it is not in spoken English the worship patterns will be familiar to us. If you can’t find a church to worship in, you could always take time on a Sunday Morning to read your Bible, pray and worship God on your own and/or as a family. Just because we are on holidays, doesn’t mean that we take a break from spending time with God as well. Just as the smell of a BBQ gets our taste buds flowing, leaving us feeling hungry and desiring to taste what is being cooked, so should be our desire for the things of God. As Christians, we should be longing to learn more about God, and have a hunger within our souls for Him. As David writes in Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” The only way that we can satisfy the craving of our souls is to place our trust firmly in Jesus and spend time with him. Hymn 73 by John Ellerton always makes me think of places I have been on holidays, the people I have met and the Churches I have worshiped in while there. As o’er each continent and island The dawn leads on another day, The voice of prayer is never silent, Nor dies the strain of praise away. The sun that bids us rest is waking Our brethren ’neath the western sky, And hour by hour fresh lips are making Thy wondrous doings heard on high. |
