Easter Thoughts

16/3/2016

At the end of this month we will be celebrating the great Christian Festival of Easter, where in Church we will hear read the prophet’s predictions and the gospel accounts of the Death and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus.  However, to someone who is not a Christian, what is Easter all about?
There is no doubt that for some, Easter is about Easter Eggs, Easter Bunnies, Spring Flowers, Holidays, etc.  But for others it may be more significant and important than all that.
The Ball Brothers are a Christian Gospel quartet from America whose music reaches across the world.  For me, they sum up in one of their songs what Easter is all about.
It's about the cross, It's about my sin
It's about how Jesus, came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It's about the stone, That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
It's about the cross!
Without the cross, we wouldn’t have the resurrection, and without the resurrection we wouldn’t have Easter.  The Death and Resurrection of Jesus is at the centre of the Christian Faith.  It is because of the events of that first Easter Morning that we Christians have hope and assurance that even when our body dies, our soul lives on forever.
On Easter Day we read the words from 1st Corinthians 15:20 “Christ has indeed be raised from the dead”, then in verse 22 “For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive”.  What this means is that sin entered into the world through a man (i.e. Adam), and as a result we all have sin within us.  However, because the Lord Jesus died on the cross we have the opportunity to have this sin forgiven and taken away from us.  When we seek the forgiveness of the Lord, we are sure that because of the Resurrection, it is through Christ that we will be alive.  Let me encourage you to think differently about Easter this year, and ask yourself the question – “What does Easter mean to me?”
Please try to remember that no matter what society tells us Easter is all about, for us ‘It is about the Cross”.  To hear more about this life-changing event, please plan to join us at our Holy Week and Easter Services.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Blessed Easter!
